Doctor Biography

Dr. Sharah Rahman is an Assistant Professor and Consultant Ophthalmologist at Bangladesh Eye Hospital & Institute in Dhaka. Her regular clinic hours are held at the hospital's Dhanmondi, Banani, and Zigatola branches. Dr. Sharah Rahman specializes in Cornea, Refractive Phaco Surgery, Complicated Cataract Surgery, Customized Refractive Surgery (Femto-LASIK, PRK, SMILE, ICL), Keratoconus, Corneal Collagen Crosslinking (CXL), Endothelial Keratoplasty (DSEK, DMEK), Penetrating Keratoplasty (PKP), Lamellar Keratoplasty (DALK), Dry Eye, and Ocular Trauma.

Dr. Sharah Rahman earned her MBBS degree from the Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College, Sylhet, Bangladesh, in 2010. She completed her MCPS in Ophthalmology and FCPS in Ophthalmology at the Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons (BCPS) in 2016 and 2017, respectively, passing both exams on her first attempt. She passed the ICO exam from the International Council of Ophthalmology in London, UK, in 2016, and an advanced FICO exam from the same organization in 2020. In 2020, she earned the prestigious FRCS Degree (FRCSEd) in Ophthalmology from The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, UK, and obtained the MRCSEd from the same institute in 2021. Dr. Sharah also passed the MRCS exam and was awarded MRCSGlasgow from the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Glasgow in 2021. She received a FACS from the American College of Surgeons, USA, in 2022.

Dr. Sharah Rahman is one of the founding members and the Co-Ordinator of the BOCS Academy (Bangladesh Ophthalmology Career Solution) - an online platform providing guidelines for career building in Ophthalmology. The purpose of the Academy is to provide exam-oriented guidelines for the students of different courses in Ophthalmology. .

  • --  Expertise also expands in the areas of epidemiology, prognostic factors, and management controversies in mechanical eye trauma.

  • --  Authored several original research articles and case reports in renowned journals like the European Journal of Ophthalmology and the Journal of Clinical Ophthalmology. She has also contributed significantly to the review literature on keratoconus and mechanical eye trauma.

  • --  Latest work on the 'Pac-Man Method' for nuclear management of posterior polar cataract has been published in the European Journal of Ophthalmology.

  • --  Video Abstract presentation at APAO conference in Malaysia and e-posters presented at conferences in Singapore, Thailand and South Africa.
